My approach to photography is to capture the everyday environment around us that a normal eye would not ordinarily see and to express its beauty in a simple way or to express an idea or emotion. This is the first part of the process where the eye encapsulates anything that captures my interest. The process evolves into a further development involving experimentation, manipulation of light or tones to highlight certain features and create a mood. It is from this state that ideas progress, grow and mature into the final image.
The photographs in the exhibition started all out with everyday objects, a leaf, a rope, a dying orchid bud. By applying light selectively to highlight some areas and adding extra contrast to others I was able to achieve in “Down to Hades” for instance, this very dark and moody photo, which really seems like a path to "down there".
